Wren Midwifery

Ada Wren, certified nurse-midwife and doula, Asheville

Birth, held gently.

Prenatal visits that last an hour, a midwife who is on call for your birth, and someone at your door in the weeks after. One person, the whole way.

Care that fits this week

    A gentle checklist

This is general information for a typical pregnancy, not medical advice or a diagnosis. Your own care team knows your situation. If something feels wrong, or in an emergency, call your local emergency number.

      Care before, during and after

      Before

      Prenatal care

Visits of a full hour from your first weeks to your due date, at the practice or at your home. We listen to the baby, check on you, and talk about whatever is on your mind.

      • Monthly visits, then every two weeks, then weekly
      • Birth preferences written together
      • Partner and sibling sessions
      • Text access for the small questions in between

      During

      Birth support

On call from week 37. As your midwife at a home or birth-center birth, or as your doula in hospital, staying with you from early labor until you are settled with your baby.

      • On call day and night from week 37
      • Continuous support through labor and birth
      • Works alongside your hospital team when needed
      • First feed and first hours, unhurried

      After

      Postpartum visits

Home visits on day one, three and seven, then weekly for six weeks. Feeding, healing, sleep and how you are doing, not only how the baby is doing.

      • Home visits for six weeks
      • Feeding help, however you feed
      • Newborn checks and weight
      • A check-in on you, every single time

      Fees

Clear prices, paid in three parts across your pregnancy. Many health savings accounts and some insurers reimburse midwife and doula care. We give you an itemized receipt to send in.

A sliding scale is available for two families each season. Just ask.

      Meet Ada

Certified nurse-midwife since 2012, doula since long before that, and at over four hundred births in Asheville and the mountains around it.

I came to midwifery through my sister’s first birth, where the kindest person in the room was the midwife. I trained in nursing, then midwifery, and worked hospital shifts for six years before opening this small practice so I could give families the one thing hospitals rarely can: time.

I take on six families a month. That is the number that lets me be on call for every one of them without ever rushing a visit.

“Ada was at our door forty minutes after I called, and stayed until our daughter was asleep on my chest.”

      Ask for a first meeting

An hour, at the practice or on the phone, no charge. We talk about what you are hoping for and whether we are a good fit. I reply within two days.
